Wise Mind and Concentrating Mind

I like to think each individual has a 'concentrating mind' and a 'wise mind.' The concentrating mind is dealing with the here and now - focusing on solving a problem, panicking about how to do something or delving deep into a subject matter.
The wise mind is more removed and detached. It is able to apply a philosophical approach to what is going on and to help put things, whether it's problems, fears or achievements, into perspective.
When it comes to companies, I believe this theory is applicable and can be a tool for leaders to maintain a calm and progressive way of working. The 'wise mindset' can be supported by a shared set of principles: articulated in the the form of a company ethos, a shared set of values, or perhaps a strategy. These clearly defined set of principles can then be referred to in times when the concentrating mind is on overdrive, to help navigate the many bumps in the road involved in running a business.
Countless times I have partnered leaders who have got caught up in something small. Maybe an employee of theirs has resigned just before a big pitch, or a client led them on before choosing their competitor, or maybe a board member challenged their department's effectiveness. These problems are no doubt frustrating, and the concentrating mind may well need to be in full problem-solving mode. But the wise mind must step in to encourage a pause and maybe a moment of self-reflection. Has there been an overreaction? Is a more considered or thorough response needed?
When in a leadership position especially, one must be able to give the right level of energy at the right time. Whether it's time to get some perspective or time to get involved, use your wise mind/ethos/strategy to provide dependable, balanced and overarching support to your team and to yourself. This will have a knock-on effect of providing a sense of safety so the people in your organisation can flourish.
