Working Parents

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

Since having my daughter in 2020, I can't change my schedule last minute, and I don't have the luxury of spending a few hours on the weekend getting ahead, like I used to quite enjoy doing.

However, when it comes to work, I feel calmer, I have a more balanced perspective and I am able to prioritise what matters with greater ease.

I'm writing this for the parents who may not have acknowledged the skills they have acquired through their massive life change. Take a minute to think about your level-up in maturity this Mother's day!

For those without kids, think about the life changes or experiences that have shaped you or helped bring you wisdom.

And for those still struggling through something or who can't seem to see their new strengths yet, I do hope one day you see how amazing you are.

Now for any leaders still reading, or those with a bit of influence.. I wonder if you could ask your employees, parents or otherwise, the simple question: what can I do to make your life easier?

People have different needs and small tweaks can make such a difference. Whether it's letting them work from home, giving them more specific start and end times, protecting their 'sacred time'', considering compressed hours or getting their schedule to them a bit earlier. Give them one or two examples, give them a week to think about it, and then really listen to what they say.

Now back to Corrie and coffee in bed with my little family 🥰
